Migula Studio BESTIA Level 5 — hand-cut 3D embroidery

Artist Statement

Every BESTIA I cut and build entirely myself, in my workshop in Łódź. One hundred numbered pieces. Around fifteen hours of work — mine alone — in each one. This is not production. This is the opposite of production.

— Darius Migula

The Object

Not a print. Not a patch. A structure.

Geometric embroidery forms the skeleton. Hand-placed faux fur fills each field. It exits the surface. Three-dimensional. Irreversible.

One colour family, multiple textures — felt at close range. Cut along the grain. Zero margin for error. I construct each piece after the order — alone, in my workshop in Łódź. No two pieces identical.

Workshop — Łódź atelier, hand-cutting in progress

One decision determines everything. How much tension to apply at the moment the thread exits the surface. Too little — the embroidery falls flat. Too much — the substrate tears.

No correction. No way back.

I cut each underlay by hand along the grain. I build each piece after the order. Alone, in my workshop in Łódź. Fifteen hours per piece.

BESTIA is Level V of the Ladder — the same technique, taken as far as it goes. Every piece is also a numbered page in the Migula Codex 2026.

Questions

Is this a print?

No. It is a structure. Geometric embroidery forms the skeleton. Hand-placed faux fur fills each field. The result exits the surface of the fabric. Three-dimensional. Irreversible. This is not decoration placed on top — it is construction through the fabric.

How many pieces exist?

One hundred. Released in waves. The first twenty-five are available now. That is not a marketing device — it is an accurate description of what one atelier and one maker can produce at this level of resolution. Each piece is numbered. Each piece carries two numbers: its edition number (01–100, unique to BESTIA) and a separate Codex 2026 page number, part of the shared 300-page record across every line.

What module should I order?

BESTIA runs true to standard sizing. The base is 93% cotton, 7% elastane — pre-washed to remove residual shrink. Module 1·S fits 86–94 cm chest, Module 2·M fits 94–102 cm, Module 3·L fits 102–112 cm, Module 4·XL fits 112–122 cm. See the fit guide for exact garment measurements. Write to darius@migulastudio.com if you need a specific fit confirmed before ordering.
